Chelsea is expected to acquire Brighton & Hove Albion’s highly regarded defender Zak Sturge.
The 18-year-old confirmed his resignation from the Amex on Thursday [14 July] after rejecting a contract extension.
He said on Instagram, “I’ve spent three incredible years with Brighton on the south coast, but it’s time to say goodbye.”
I have learned a great deal about myself as a player and gained some lifelong friends throughout my time at the club.
I’d want to thank all the Brighton coaches who have contributed to my development as a player over the previous three years, and I wish everyone (staff and players) the best of luck for the next season. #ZS3”
Chelsea is expected to outbid Premier League rivals Leeds United and a number of German Bundesliga teams for the promising youngster.
In 2021-22, Sturge featured sixteen times for Albion’s under-18s in the Under-18 Premier League and contributed one assist.
The young left defender has earned three under-18 England caps. He assisted the Young Lions in winning the Four Nations Tournament in Croatia last month.
The youngster also made one Premier League 2 appearance for the Seagulls’ under-23 squad last season.
