Aston Villa against Leeds
Given what transpired at Villa Park, Marcelo Bielsa will feel confident in his team’s ability to preserve their position in tenth place this weekend. Leeds United just leapfrogged Arsenal into the top half of the Premier League standings following a crushing victory against Southampton.
Dean Smith’s squad were riding high when they welcomed Leeds to Birmingham in late October, having won 7-2 against Liverpool and 1-0 against Leicester, but it was the Elland Road team who prevailed on the day by thrashing Aston Villa 3-0.
In contrast, the Villans approach this battle in West Yorkshire with a record nearly diametrically opposed to their two victories in the fall, having lost 2-1 to Leicester City in their most recent outing and drawing 0-0 with Brighton in their most recent outing.
Now, just one point separates both teams going into Saturday night’s matchup, but Smith’s squad has two games in hand over Leeds. Patrick Bamford scored a hat-trick in the first matchup, but can Leeds’ leading scorer replicate the feat? Or, will Villa recover?
